Review:

Walter Zacharius historical novel, “The Memories We Keep”, is told through the voice of Mia Levy, who witnesses firsthand the German invasion of Poland.  Mia’s upper class family quickly falls into the devastation of war.  As Mia escapes the Nazi onslaught of Poland, she eventually makes her way to the USA.  Once in New York, Mia finds a way to help in the war effort.  The effort includes returning to war torn Europe as a spy to fetter out information from German soldiers.

Walter Zacharius, a veteran of WW II, presents the disturbing theme of moral ambiguity using characters of German soldiers, who though, commit terrible atrocities, still show the capability of kindness.
