Review:

Kate Chopin, considered a forerunner of feminist novels, was born in St. Louis Mo., in 1850, and died in St. Louis, Mo., in 1904.  The novel centers on conformity, and social attitudes towards women.

Chopin’s novel tells the story of a young wife and mother who resents the entrapment of her conventional marriage.  To seek happiness, the young woman defies all custom and advice.

The classic story, beautiful told, is colorfully descriptive of the turn of the century depicting attitudes and lifestyles, social norms and expectations, and décor and apparel.
