Review:

In this top notch, fast paced thriller, Jack Mc Evoy, a reporter for the Rocky Mountain News, faces the grim task of investigating the death of his twin brother, Sean, a detective for the Denver PD.

Much speculation as to the cause of death surrounds Sean’s case.  Both Jack, and Riley, Sean’s wife, disbelieve the evidence pointing to suicide.

Jack’s investigating leads him to uncover the quote left at the scene of Sean’s death.  The quote is from a poem of Edgar Allan Poe, and the name “Eidolon” appears, meaning phantom.  Jack becomes convinced Sean’s death could not have been a suicide.

Jack learns to dodge bureaucratical roadblocks and sets out for Chicago reaching out to police departments in different cities that suffered similar cases as he attempts to solve his brother’s murder.  Jack meets Special Agent Rachel Walling who must decide if she will help or hinder Jack.

Intelligent, filled with unexpected twists and turns.

Review:

The murderer, dubbed as the Poet, who haunts FBI Agent, Rachel Walling in her dreams, returns in, “The Narrows.”

Harry Bosch is called to investigate the death of his friend, Terry McCaleb.  Rachel Walling, isolated the last several years in Minot North Dakota, travels to Nevada, to investigate.

Harry delves in to Terry’s notes on the case of The Poet.  He forms a chronology of the events, fills in the blanks with Terry’s leads and comes up with ideas.  One of the photos disturbs Harry.  It is sketchy but Harry thinks it is Bob Backus, a former  FBI agent, on the run.

Harry and Rachel work together in an attempt to solve the case, dealing with a possibly dangerous, rouge FBI agent.

Interesting plot; suspenseful; quick reading.
