Review:

“Color of the Sea” offers the story of young, American man born of Japanese heritage.  A proud descendent of Samurai, Isamu Hamadi spends his formative years in Japan, and is later educated in the U.S., where he meets the love of his life.

The well-written novel addresses discrimination and offers a realistic and sensitive portrayal of Japanese American citizens during WW II.   The author also extends detail to the daily life and culture in Japan.  Hamamura candidly addresses WW II, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor as well as the bombing of Hiroshima.
