Review:

The novel centers on three fringe characters of society.

Madison, a young man who harbors conflicting feelings towards his parents and childhood leaves his life behind to travel abroad.  During his travels in India, he becomes drug and sex addicted and is diagnosed with AIDS.

Roya, an emigrant, with a young daughter from Iran, tells the story of losing her husband in the Gulf war.  She escapes Iran to Kabul only to find misery there inflicted by the Taliban.  From there she escapes to India and into the arms of a man who only used her.  Roya immigrates to the U.S. and moves into an apartment house where Madison becomes obsessed with her.

Ric, a political activist and social worker devotes his life to “the organization” that sends him on mysterious secret missions.  Ric and Roya develop a relationship.

As the emotionally damaged characters intertwining relationships deepen, jealousies flare and surface in violence.

Farnoosh Moshiri immigrated to the United States in 1987.
