Review:

The author paints a vivid portrait of the 19th Century Victorian era in the mysterious and intriguing novel.  A young teen-aged girl, raised along with other children by thieves and riffraff must learn to survive in a dangerous world of crime.  In the home of Mrs. Sucksby and her associates, none store a conscience.  The children are taught to obey, to thieve and to deceive.

Well written and fast-paced, the novel, full of twists and turns, is descriptive and picturesque.
