Fictional story based on the internment of American Japanese citizens, during WW II.

 

The story centers on a farming family in Ellis, California.  Lloyd Stroud teaches his children the evils of prejudice in a town consumed with fear of and anger against the Japanese Americans.

After the murder of a young girl occurs, the Japanese community is summarily blamed.

 

Discrimination, kindness and morals dominate the theme of Dallas’s novel.
