“Death of a Salesman,” considered one of the best Arthur Miller’s best plays, was published in 1949.  Another, “The Crucible,” was published in 1953.  Miller received several literary awards including the Pulitzer Award for Drama.  Miller was married for a short time to Marilyn Monroe.  Arthur Miller was born in 1915, in Harlem, NY and died in Roxbury, CT, in 2005.

“Death of a Salesman,” portrays Willy Loman, a sixty-three year old salesman who resides in New York, and has worked for his company for thirty-four years.  Loman battles work fatigue, his economic status, and the disappointment in his two sons who still reside under his roof.

The sensitive story describes how Willy Loman, a lifelong salesman, feels his edge in salesmanship slipping away.  The company managers, to whom Willy devoted so many years, refuse his request for an office job.  The novel describes his tenative relationship with his sons, and how events from their youth, shaped their lives.
