Max Eisen, born in 1929, in Moldava, Czechoslovakia, relates his tragic story of the Holocaust. Eisen begins his memoir with descriptions of his happy childhood before the events of WW II ravaged the lives of his family members as well as millions of fellow Jews. Detailed and often graphic, the author describes his teen years spent in Auschwitz, Mauthausen and the sub death camps of Melk and Ebensee. Eisen offers realistic views of life in the camps, from the daily routine of long morning and evening roll calls, to the physical abuse, the beatings, the starvation, the slave labor work assignments, to the diseased and lice ridden prisoners.
However, against all odds, Eisen also recounts incidents of unbridled bravery and sacrifice in the most desperate of times.
Eisen extends his story to include his experiences after the war ended, and as well, his long awaited escape to Canada. Years later, Eisen related his experiences of the Holocaust in speaking events.
