Review:

The night of a rare snowstorm brings unintended, lifelong consequences to David Henry, and his wife, Norah.

As Dr. David Henry drives through the storm on route to the hospital, he realizes his wife, Norah, will give birth before they arrive.  He decides to deliver their first child himself, at his clinic, with the help of Caroline, his nurse.

The birth of Paul comes after a short while, a beautiful healthy boy.  But unexpectedly, a second child is born; a girl her father recognizes as mongoloid.

David’s lingering memories of his ill sister prompt him to make the fateful decision, not to keep his infant daughter.  As baby Paul lay safely in his mother’s arms, David tells his wife, the second baby, a girl, has died.

Caroline Gill, thirty-one and unmarried, takes the baby and raises her as her own.

Norah slips into a deep depression over the loss of her daughter.

Sometime later, Caroline makes contact with David.

Well written; interesting storyline.
