Review:

A mother’s search for her son pulls her to the frigid, icy, Northern Territory of Canada in 1867.

After the body of a brutally murdered man is found in the small settlement of Caulfield, on Dove River, a band of searchers form to track down the killer. The crime also sparks interest in a tragedy which occurred seventeen years before, the disappearance of two young girls.

From the small settlement, searchers journey out across the vast, frozen, perilous wilds of the unknown tundra.  Each person’s survival depends on his ability to traverse the icy habitat of which, even wild animals fall prey.  As the search parties grow, politics and prejudice threaten to derail the difficult search and eventual justice. Mysterious occurrences burden the search and investigation.  Each individual harbors his own private reasons for joining the team and jeopardizing his life.

Incredibly descriptive of the impenetrable wilds of Canada, the mysterious story speaks to the different beliefs, values, and expectations of men.  The title, The Tenderness of Wolves is meant to express that things are not always as they seem, or always as perceived.
