Review::

Bennett based the novel on the political upheaval in the Congo, and on the waning days of colonialism.  Two journalists, one, a young Italian woman and the other, a British writer, assume the key roles, along with a tough guy as a CIA agent, and a foreign businessman.

The young woman’s naiveté and fanatical dedication to the new leader vying for political power leads her lover into great danger.

The story unfolds quickly as Bennett shapes the characters and expands the plot.  The novel is realistic, informative and graphic.

Bennett, author of both fiction and non-fiction books, holds a record steeped in political controversy.  Bennett, accused of affiliation with the IRA, a bombing and the murder of a constable, spent years in prison before his case was deemed “unsafe” and he was subsequently released.
