Review:

The harrowing story of David Pelzer and the years of horrific abuse he suffered at the hands of his mother, and his complicit father.  A wrong look, a misplaced word, and the wrath of his mother would rain down blows on young Dave that would dislocate an arm, or have him confined and starved.

The book opens with Dave’s rescue.  After his mother drops him off at school and Dave is called into the office.  The nurse notes the mark above his eye, the tattered clothes, the scar on his stomach, the fresh bruise.  The Principal, Mr. Hansen reads the report.  His teachers are present in the room and a police officer Dave his mother will never hurt him again.

The autobiography details the incredible emotional trauma and horrendous physical abuse David Pelzer suffered.  This well documented work, supported by the Thomas Edison Elementary School and staff, includes sources such as the California Consortium for Prevention of Child Abuse.  Recommended.
