Review :

The story of “The Blue Orchard”, takes place in Pennsylvania, during the 1920's to the 1950's, and is based on the life of the author’s grandmother.

Verna Krone, a woman of Irish heritage, awaits trial along with Dr. Crampton, a prominent Negro, in the town of Harrisburg.  The two, after their arrest, subsequently stand trial for running an abortion clinic, using the pretense of a woman’s health clinic.

Verna reflects over her life, her circumstances, and her decisions as she waits for the trial to begin.

The author states she claims no stand on abortion.  The writing is often dull, the story long, and the characters void of emotion.
